Please view my new blog at http://www.JohnBurchell.com/wordpress

I will be leaving this blog here for archival purposes.  I have imported all my posts into the new location so you can delete any bookmarks you may have saved here and recreate the new.

I’ve been trying out different templates for a couple of months, and this one seems to fit really well.  I enjoy the the ease and layout of it, but I’m missing the Calendar.  The template name is HemingwayEx and is actually still in beta, but I like it and I think I’ll try it out a while longer.

I’ve also put a Gallery page into the mix, so you’ll be able to see more of my work.  I’m about to be updating all of my Gallery Images soon, but for now, there are two Galleries:

1. The “Product Photography Examples” gallery, which is in transition. Meaning most of those images will stay, but they will need to be updated a bit.

2. The General Gallery of Photographic Examples has a lot of my older work and that gallery will probably go away.

Please comment on what you think about it and any content you might find here!

Well I recently updated this blogging software to Wordpress 2.3. They worked out some bugs and added some new features and I like to stay current so here it is.

One of the noticeable differences is an “Addthis” drop down at the bottom of each post.  It’s there so you can conveniently add any of the articles to your favorite bookmark pages.  I like using these bookmark services, because no matter what computer I happen to be logged into, I can still access my favorites.  Other people can see my favorites too, by searching for burcjo on del.icio.us or http://delicious.com . Another thing, by adding my articles to your favorites lists, will let the world know that I’m doing something worth doing.

Aside from that, you shouldn’t notice many other changes, but if you run into problems, don’t hesitate to let me know.

I’ve been really lax in posting and I’m really sorry.  I’m sure everyone reading has been wondering if I’m still doing business!  I’ve just been really busy juggling everything in my schedule.  Between my full-time job at the state, different photographer opportunities, working with my good friend John McDonald, a website designer, and my wonderful family, I’ve managed to stay quite busy.  John and I have been working on some really great ideas and we’ve decided to start even one more project!  We’re going to combine our talents, Website Design, and Photography.  It’s a promising opportunity and that’s all I can say about it right now, it’s our “secret project”.  I’ll definitely keep you posted as more is revealed.

So, a pilot “secret project”, several portraits, countless diapers and a couple of date-nights with my wife since my last post, I’m here to tell you I’m very much here! And I’m very grateful for the opportunity to spend time with each of you.  Thank You for the wonderful experiences!  Weddings and portraits are such a great time to get to know people, study them, discover their hidden talents and unique traits.  I love this part of my work.

Check back for more details about our new “secret project” !

I’ve been working on updates to my website.  The whole thing will be changing soon, except for this blog.  I may adopt a different theme so it fits in better.  Stay tuned for all the changes and an update of everything in my gallery.  My work has been getting better, and I feel the images in my current gallery just don’t represent what I’m capable of, so I’m in the process of rebuilding the entire website.

Well, the changes to the website went better than I expected, so if you’re trying to use the TEST website url from my last post … It Doesn’t Work! Because I’ve already updated the site.

You can also access the HOME page now by clicking on the link on the LEFT… you should see it there now and it should make navigating between the two areas a lot easier.

If you have ANY comments (GOOD or BAD) I’d love to hear them!

Well the turkeys finished, the boxes and paper are gone and everything is rapidly getting back to normal.  I’ve been working on a new design for the main website.  The original was thrown together by a basic WSYWIG.

Now it’s a lot more personalized, it includes several of my photos, and works a lot better.  I still have a few details to get worked out on it, but you can find it temporarily at: http://www.studio1seven.com/tst2

I’ve added a section that will allow you to view proofs and order prints from online!  How convenient is that?  Just browse, click, pay and they’ll come shipped to your home in a couple of days.

I’ve added a couple of photos from Oklahoma Citys Opening Night.  January 1 2007.  The direct link to order the photos is: http://studio1seven.photoreflect.com/ Please check it out and let me know what you think!

It’s going to look great when I start adding some of my photos. I’ve got a fresh batch to edit and get post so stay tuned.

Speaking of color schemes … I want to thank Jeff Malek for taking the time to write the wonderful Theme “Dark.Cash”. I only had to make a few modifications in order to use it here on my site. It helps to have a background in computers and web development!

For anyone wanting to start their own blog, there are several sites out there that will let you do it. I’m just now scratching the surface. There are so many things you can do if you are really interested in expressing yourself. They are also handy for communicating with you others whether they are family members, old work friends, clients and potential customers. Since I am handling all my own web services, I’m using the Open-Source version of software called WordPress. They also have a great big server at www.wordpress.com that you can create an account there, and have your own BLOG up and running within minutes.
