I saw Scott Smith in Dallas at his Lighting and Posing seminar.  I can tell you it was the best money I’ve ever spent.  That man is truly amazing.  His teaching style is awesome, his material was great and he was very informative.  I got to cover all the basics plus he shared a lot of things I’ve never heard or read from anyone.  No matter how much experience you have with lighting and posing, you would be better off after spending some time with Scott.  He’s truly a great and giving man.

During each phase of teaching about lighting styles and the names for each of the lights, ie: Main, Flash, Hair and background, students were asked, encouraged, and coached how to properly place each light for great portraits.  It was hands on, direct feedback and full of good stuff.

Then after showing us how to create each style of lighing, ie: loop, rembrandt, etc. We spent some time going over general posing points of interest for men, women, couples and groups. Then he showed several images where we were asked “what’s wrong” and we got point out good, better and not very flattering poses.

Then to finish it off, the class of around 20 was divided into groups.  We were given the assignment to create a pose, then apply correct lighting with all we’d learned over the weekend.  Of course his professional, masters critique followed and we were given great feedback and pointers on how to improve our images.

It was truly a great course.  Look him up at http://www.lightingmagic.com  If you’re in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, it would be WELL worth your time to look him up.
